VARSITY

Boys Futsal 2nd place in SPHSL and 2nd place in BIG 4

Girls Volley 2nd place in SPHSL and 1st place in BIG 4

Boys Volley 4th place in BIG 4

Girls Futsal 2nd place in BIG 4

Boys Softball 3rd place in BIG 4

Girls Softball 2nd place in BIG 4

Let's see at the end of the year if i'm right.

CHAPEL DAY

This year Chapel day was horrible. The activities designed for students were boring compared to last year chapel day where students had soap soccer, kick ball, volley, and ping pong tournaments. Chapel day should be a day of celebration and excitement like it was in 2008. This day we should celebrate CHAPEL SCHOOL and who makes CHAPEL SCHOOL awesome are the students so students should have fun activities. Throwing a ball up and down or wating five hours to play badminton isn't fun. STUCO should do something about it and start to work in favor for the school and not in favor on them like only being at STUCO for their curriculum at Chapel.

Big 8 Results

Boys Soccer - 4th place - Boys soccer presented a good soccer during the competition, and unluckly they lost against ASA in the semi finals.

Girls Soccer - 3rd place - Girls played with grace at Big 8. However the lost against Graded in penaltis made them play against ASA(1ST PLACE) in the semi final which resulted in a 3x1 loss

Boys Basketball- 6th place - They had a good team but their group was the death group with the 1st,2nd, 3rd place of last big 8. In the 5th place game, they lost against PACA in a difficult game.

Girls Basketball - 4th place - They were confident throught the competition and were showing a lot of commitment. However they weren't able to beat ASA in the semi finals.

NO MEDALS FOR CHAPEL. =(

WOC SAO PAULO

People who stayed at São Paulo during the WOC week had a pleasent time with a variety of activities. Monday we went to the Coca Cola Factory in Jundiai-SP and we learned about the coca cola production and history of coca cola in Brasil. Tuesday we spend the whole day at Chapel and we watched 4 TED talks that explained the way humans should live. Also we played Badminton with coach Marcello. Wednesday we watched a great movie called the Emperor's Club, played futsal, and created a blog to talk about staying in Sao Paulo during WOC. Thursday we went to the brazilian Stock Market called Bovespa. we learned about how to invest in the market and about the Bovespa's history. Friday was boring.

HIGH SCHOO LEAGUE FINALS: BOYS SOCCER & GIRLS BASKETBALL

The best sound is the sound of silence

Boys soccer made it to the finals after a tense game against the Giants at Campinas. The game started with good chances of goals for both teams, eac was controlling the game with fast passes in the midfield and the wings, however they couldn't pass through the trojans solid defensive system. Chapel opened the score with the help of the goalkeeper that after a long kick couldn't hold the ball. After that the whole game was played at EAC attacking side. Chapel was suffering a lot of pressure, and 2 min to the end of the game eac scored, the crowd went insane. In the penalties Vicente defended two penalties and the trojans were classified for the finals against the eagles.

===============================================================

Girls basketball went to EAC as well for a though game against the Giants. After loosing both games during the season, Chapel proved to the giants that they weren't easy to beat and they had a great team. The girls demonstrate commitment and perseverence. Now, they are looking forward to the final against St Pauls at their place. After long years of bad results, Mr, Dillon changed trojans way of playing and increased their expectations in Big 8.

Chapel 3x0 Graded - a flawless victory against the 1st place team

Tension was getting higher when the game was approaching to its beginning. Chapel players realized that the game agaisnt Graded was vital to reach the semi final against Campinas, for this reason the players managed to have a meeting in the locker room to talk abour the new tatics and strategies. 3-5-2 (as i always emphasized before) was the chosen tatic by players and coach marcello, it was the first time Chapel was playing 3-5-2. However, it was decided that Chapel wouldn't play with a defesinve midfielder, only with 3 offensive midfielders. It was risky, but it could work. The starter team was Vicente, Joel, Pietro, Nicholas, Martin, Samir, Kim, Christian, Gandra, Tomas, and Filipe. The started with both teams studying the game and Graded was controlling the passes and was easily reaching the trojans' goal which made Vicente work a lot. When Matheus Dana(defensive midfielder) entered the game, things improved a lot for the trojans, in addition the trojans scored a goal in a fast counter attack. In the second half, Chapel managed to score two more goals one by penalty and the other by corner kick. The highlight of the game was the solid defensive and the hussle shown by the players. That was the team everybody was expecting, and if the trojans continue to play with strong attitude and hussle, big 8 and high school league could be won.

Chapel's Bar: a nightmare for students. .

At break, lunch, or after school the majority of Chapel's students are concetrated at the bar that we are lucky to have . However for many years student number one concern are to improve bar in all aspects including food, chits, line, etc. STUCO, once, tried to change the situation but after they received a no from staff they gave up and never tried to begin a conversation with staff. Without a doubt, comparing to Graded and St Pauls, chapel have the worst bar. The food is really good however they lack chocolates, candies, and ice cream everything that a children whishes to eat after or during classtime. Mr. Cialello argues that there's a law in São Paulo that prohibites the selling of chocolates and candies in schools. First, students accepted Mr. Cialello argument but after they saw what Graded and St Pauls are selling they started to argue back, but they couldn't talk with the staff because STUCO didn't want to help people who voted on them. In my opinion, chocolates and candies should only be selled to high school students at break time and lunch, because highschool students have a concious mind about whats good or bad for them to eat. Another point is that it takes too long to buy chits, my idea is that each student should obtain a chapel credit card that should be used to buy chits. So that students doesn't waste money and uses it wisely Chapel should limit the amount of chits a student can buy in a day, week, or month. Small electronic boxes contains chits could be spread around campus and students could pass their cards and select the amount of chits they want and the electronic box will print the chits desired by the student. To decrease the amount of time a student wait to buy something at the bar, lines should be made in the front of the bar so people could fastly buy want they want. Surely, it would make things less stressful and easier for everybody. I hope STUCO do something about it.

Printing Quotas

The topic Recycling and Waste have been discussed and teached to the students at Chapel School in the last years. Wasting papers is a global and a school concern. Chapel wanted to contribute to the saving of the world's nature. Because of that administrators have purchased a new program that was able to monitor the printing of papers of teachers and students. Each student have a certain amount of papers they can print each semester, the numbers of papers varies depending on the grade level. If the amount of copies is over before the semester ends, student can purchase a credit of 10 copies by paying 50 cents in chits to the administration.

- Grades 4th-6th: 75 copies per semester
-Grades 7th-8th: 100 copies
-Grades 9th-10th: 125 copies
- Grades 11-12th: 150 copies

In my point of view the idea to aware the students of the world's need and that students have a huge impact in nature is awesome. According Mr. Cialello, school's principal, students were printing tons of copies when they only needed one, and sometimes they were printing things that they could easily write by hand. Lets see if it will work, only by testing something we could get accurate results and new ideas. I hope it will be good in practice as its good in theory.

Chapel's impressive 6X1 lost to Graded

Last tuesday, the Varisty Boys soccer had an important clash against the eagles at Graded. Chapel wanted to redempt from the 3x2 lost to EAC and beat Graded so the dream of bringing the League Final to Chapel remains. However, the game wasn't what coach Marcello expected, a humilliating 6x1 to Graded.

About the Game:
Although Graded was undefeated, Chapel's players was filled up with confidence. Coach Marcello tried to take advantage of the team's agility and started with a 4-3-3; Lucas, Martin, Nicholas, Joel, Lukas, Pietro, Christian, Kim, Filipe, Tomás, and Samir. When the game started things was going good for Chapel, the boys controlled the initial of the game and almost scored a goal. But when Graded scored opened the score with a perfect header, Chapel players was clearly disappointed because they practiced the whole week their header skills and their positioning in corner kicks. In less than 5 minutes the game was already 3x0 to Graded, and when the first half was getting over Filipe scored a goal trying to bring hope for Chapel. Coach Marcello made some substituion in the second half that resulted in 3 goals for Graded. The final result was 6x1 for Chapel's biggest rival. Horrific. Teribble. Humiliation. Speechless. There are no words that could define the way Chapel Trojans played. We wish them good luck against EAC on saturday.

Terrible Start for the Trojans

In the beggining of the season Chapel played 4 games in each sport. 2 games for Boys Soccer, 2 games for girls Soccer, 2 games for Boys Basketball, and 2 games for Girls Basketball. The result was horrific, the opposite exepected from the coaches.
Boys soccer are seen as favorites to win Big 8, however their first two games wasn't played as Big 8 current champions should play. Although Chapel won 1x0 St Pauls in the first game, the team didn't had a good game with many flaws in the defense especially in the wings. Also Chapel doesn't have a good squad, the starters are good players but they don't have reposition in the bench. The second game Chapel started by beating EAC in Campinas by 2x0 with a perfect first half. The second half was completely the opposite, with many substitution made by coach Marcello, EAC came back by scoring 3 goals with the help of Chapel's players that taught that the game was won. There are many things that need to be corrected if Chapel want to win Big 8 again. Girls soccer are also seen as a excellent team that could win Big 8 this year. The team are pratically the same, but the soccer they played in those two games wasn't the soccer they played that took them to winning the silver medal in Big 8. In an apathic game against St Pauls they couldn't attack their opponents, neither control the ball, they lost by one goal scored in the second half. The game at Eac was much better, but still victory didn't came. The first half was 3x0 to EAC with many flaws made by the defensive players, but Silvia was able to score 3 goals and tie the game. At penalties, Chapel lost 3x2.
Chapel's Basketball hasn't show good results in the last years, and the beginning of the season isn't promising for Chapel. Boys bball lost their first two games against Paca and St Pauls. They need to improve a lot if they want to go far in Big 8 due to their difficult group that is Paca, Graded, and EAB current first, second and third place in Big 8. The girls presented an excellent game against PACA and won easily the game, however when the opponent got a little bit harder they lost. (St Pauls).
This week both sports have a difficult task playing against their biggest rival, Graded Eagles. Varsity Soccer will play at Graded hoping to win so they could see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if they loose the game things will get much worse. Varsity Basketball has a home game against the Eagles. Without a doubt the presence of the crowd will be important, because its not easing playing basketball against Mr. Bear's team that is known for having a great b-ball team.

Quick Note - Prepare to Travel for 2 weeks

This semester Big 8 will happen between November 15-21 and the WOC between November 22-28.

Will athlete students after a week of puting their body to the limit with long-lasting games and muscular endurance exercises be able to spend a week out of their homes travelling to another place to study ?

In my opinion it will be really hard to athlete students to show effort in WOC after Big 8. Especially in places that they don't have desire to be at like Acre/Amazonas and Minas Gerais.

Post your answer in comments.

Subs - Problems for teachers and students.

When a teacher is absent for any particular reason, a substitute replace the teacher, the problem at Chapel School is that most of the times substitute teachers becomes a problem for the students and for the absent teacher. Chapel provide substitute teachers that is not prepared to handle a class and keep control of the class. Students misbehave and don't respect the substitute because she doesn't have the control of students and doesn't show any sign of authority to the class. Also the absent teacher don't know who is going to sub him or her, therefore the teacher can't explain the substitute class topic and substitute can't provide the necessary information for the class that the absent teacher wanted to, hence it confuses the students and students can't complete the work with efficiency.
In addition, some of the substitute Chapel provided didn't speak english and couldn't have a conversation with foreign students. What students most argue about is that substitue is really unfair, because they ask before class starts to other teachers and Chapel staff who are class clowns, who are the good student, etc and they treat different the students because of the information they were given. For example if the class clown and the A+ student were misbehaving, the substitue will only send the class clown to the office because she was told who were the 'bad guys' as they like to say.
The solution for this case is that Chapel Staff should use Chapel's teachers as subs when another teacher is absent, because students will respect the teacher, the sub and teacher could talk and prepare the class to the students, and the 'sub' already know Chapel style of class and students.

New Late Policy Rule

In the past Chapel students was arguing about the loads of homeworks and projects teachers were assigning them, specially IB students. Student's main argument was that they couldn't manage their time due to sports, afterschool programs, and weekend activities. Also, the late policy rule at Chapel was that if a student didn't turn in the homework or project on time the student will get a 0 for the homewrok assigned and their grades would be harmed. Because of so many problems caused by this rule and students and parents complaining to the administration, Chapel's staff decided to change this rule so students could improve their learning. The new rule was necessary because now students have more time to complete a homework with more effiency and time.

The new rule is:

When a student fails to complete an assignment on time the teacher will record a zero in the work habit category of the graded book, this grade can't be changed. The teacher will notify the administration of the zero recorded in a student's grade book. The student will be assigned a study session to complete the late homework for a full credit in other categories of the grade book. According to Ms. Feitosa '' Although the new rule gives more work for teachers, students have a opportunity to recuperate the late homework and improve their grades''.
However, if a student's name appears in the study session list many times, a conference with principal and parents will be necesary and the students will be on academic probation.
